Defying the Curse' tells the amazing story of a man's triumph over profound disability in Ireland of the 1800's. Irish Author Maria O'Rourke tells the story of Arthur Kavanagh - an extraordinary man - who defied not only his own challenges, but also an ancient curse which was placed on his family by a disgruntled tenant. In childhood he conquered the pastimes of his noble birth by hunting, shooting and fishing, while in adulthood he became an MP, sailing his own yacht across the Irish Sea and up the Thames to take his place in Parliament, representing Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford. He became the father of seven children with his wife, Frances and a few more besides!
